Happy New Year!

Posted on 08:43 by Unknown
At least that is my hopes for everyone.

2011 and well the last few years have been quite the struggle, and I hope life will get better.

It has a little bit, and who am I to complain really.

I have a job, a coveted job, that I need to appreciate more.

I have a great guy who will become my husband in 2.5 months! It's crazy to think that exactly one year ago we could have broken up and I wouldn't have thought twice about it. With therapy and hard work, we are right for each other.

I have my health, though I worry its declining a bit. I've got a plan in place though which includes better nutrition, a personal trainer and a therapist.

I believe in actively trying to better oneself and creating resolutions all year long, so I don't really have any resolutions.

I just have my checklist in place to add goals and check other off.

I am hoping 2012 brings more goodness and success, not just for me, but for everyone!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Posted on 21:04 by Unknown
I hope you all had a wonderful valentine's day. I know the day is not necessarily about flowers, chocolates and gifts. But let's be freakin honest... I LOVE THEM!

I tend not to put any pressure of the guy(s) I'm dating as I have very little faith in men to be at all romantic. So it's always a happy surprise when they do something.

Arena sent me a text... cute... I haven't seen him since he dropped the baby bomb.

ScottyAvs apologized (I can't believe it either) for not coming up with any plans, but he last-minute took me to a nice dinner and bought flowers.

What a cutie!

I rode him extra hard for that. ;)

Valentine's Effort

Posted on 13:53 by Unknown
I hope everyone had a wonderful valentine's day, either celebrating with a loved one or celebrating your fabulous self.

RedSox really wanted to celebrate Valentines. I did not. I didn't feel I deserved one. I just wanted a quiet saturday where I opened the gym, had a good work-out after my shift and enjoyed my evening.

Like a typical guy, RedSox tried to make reservations last-minute. He found 9:45pm at Persephone. Unfortunately, I'm ready to eat my arm by 7:30-8pm. I told him I'd much rather stay home and order in. He INSISTED we go out, so I relented and asked him to find a place with an earlier reservation.

At the end of my shift, I called to let him know I was gonna work out. I could be ready around 5-6pm. He told me the only reservation he could find was 4:30pm at Petit Robert. I did not want to eat at 4:30pm... let alone at a place I could care less about. Again, he INSISTED.

I had a crappy work-out, went to CVS to find him a card and headed home to get ready. I called him again to see if he was able to find a later reservation anywhere. He asked what I wanted to do. I told him I want to be able to eat when I'm hungry.

We decided to stay in... and he would cook for me. I was already waay pissed off by this point, so to get him to cook for me would guarantee he would stay in the kitchen while I cooled off.

RedSox said he would pick me up at 6pm... he finally came around 8:15pm. Did I mention that I would have eaten my arm by this point? I was sleeping to avoid the anger that hunger brings on.

He picked me and bought flowers. He had all the food ready to cook. I was still pissy.

Listen. I know he's trying really hard to please me, but I can't get over the chaos I feel in my head. I can't stand improper planning and disorganization.

The evening ended up going pretty well once I started drinking the pinot noir I selected and bought for the night. He fed me immediately with cheeses and nuts, then cooked a decent chicken entree with pasta.

I apologized for my anger. He forgave me and handed me my gift. A cross from Tiffanys. He also gave me some lingerie.

Sex... now that is a WHOLE other issue.

Hysteria!

Posted on 10:42 by Unknown

I hope everyone had and/or is continuing to have a wonderful holiday season.

The Hysteria bag from gucci was my fabulous gift from Santa. I have re-coordinated my New Years outfit around it.

Speaking of New Years, I made reservations for dinner at the latest and hippest new bar in Boston. The M bar at the new Mandarin Oriental is super sexy and swarming with sugar daddies. For New Years though, I wanted to share it with RedSox and anyone else who was in town.

I made the reservation and told RedSox. It's a tapas menu with a bottle of champagne included. He loves tapas so I figured he would love this idea. Yesterday he took one look at the menu and said he'd rather go elsewhere since most of the dishes are seafood dishes.

I was pissed, but I wasn't going to give up on the M bar that easily. I made a safety reservation at Ruths' Chris Steakhouse since that's our favorite steak place.  I also called the M bar and asked them if the chef would make alternative dishes for RedSox. I told them he's allergic to seafood.

I hope the chef hooks me up because I really really really want to go there to celebrate the new year... and show of my new bag ;)

The Biggest Unofficial Holiday

Posted on 07:24 by Unknown
I was plotting my escape from work for Tuesday afternoon as early as 1 month ago. Once I figured out my schedule, I figured I could just pull the whole 'I've got a doctor's appointment' move. Classic... works.

But when I woke up Tuesday morning to the sun shining, I knew I needed to take the whole day off. I mean, come on... half of Boston was taking the day off. It is, after all, the OPENING DAY at Fenway Park!

I got up early and called in sick. I stayed up because I felt guilty. Around noontime, RedSox and I headed over to Fenway. It was a chilly day, but the excitement warmed us up. The opening ceremony with the presentation of the World Series rings was fantastic. I think I stood out because I cheered the loudest for the team doctor.

What? He gave me free tix before I started dating RedSox.

There were a ton of sports figures from Boston's past in town from the Bruins, Patriots and Celtics. They came with their colors and trophies. Once again I got looks because I cheered the loudest for Bobby Orr.

What? I love hockey players.

I think the highlight of the game was with the dropping of the World Series banners. They fell from the green monster gracefully, but 1918 dropped at the end of the wall. Where was 2004 gonna fall?

Then over all the banners, dropped the largest banner I have ever seen in my life. 2004 spanned the ENTIRE green monster. We cheered and cheered and cheered for a long time for the biggest win in sports history as far as Boston is concerned.

Then God stepped in. They dropped another gigantic banner OVER 2004 for the 2007 win. The banner was swept up by the wind. People on the field kept trying to pull it down, but the wind held it high... keeping 2004 alive. We all cheered and laughed because we felt the same ;)

So I skipped work, didn't tell anybody, let everyone think I spent the day home sick... when really I celebrated the best unofficial holiday in history.

April Fools on Labor & Delivery

Posted on 15:59 by Unknown
Around midnight last night of my 24 hour call, the chief resident on night duty announced to everyone that it was April Fools Day.

Blimey... it's already freakin April?

There is a huge white board on the labor & delivery unit with room numbers and the names of patients in those rooms. It's been a slow couple of weeks for delivering babies, so the board is brightly white. That is until the Chief Resident and Intern decided it would be a great April Fool's joke to fill up the board with fake patients and ridiculous labor drama.

So they left the real patients on the board and filled in the other slots with ridiculous labors. I'm talking pre-term triplets, women in their 50s and 60s in labor, a full day of scheduled c-sections... just crazy and highly unlikely stuff at our hospital.

There are a total of 5 chief residents. One is on night duty. One is out for maternity leave. One is on vacation. This leaves only 2 chief residents to handle everything going on with Ob/Gyn.

The two of them walked into the Labor & Delivery unit for morning sign out and flipped out when they saw the board. They were frantically trying to divide up the OR time and consult time and every other time that they had to handle. It was pretty funny. Finally the night chief resident came out and yelled April Fools. I don't think the 2 day chiefs could have been more relieved.

Thank God I was not the butt of the joke. I think I might have cried... or at the very least experienced chest pain from a heart attack.

Breaking Resolutions

Posted on 14:24 by Unknown
It's no secret I hate the phone. That's why I decided to make calling people my new year's resolution.

I didn't call anyone to wish them a happy new year on the first. I didn't even answer calls when people called me.

On the 2nd, after a looooong first day back in the hospital I just wanted to go home and sleep. I was determined though. I had to call someone. So I flipped open my cell and realized that I have a lot of phone numbers in my phone.

Most of the people I haven't talked to in years. I'm not even sure I'd call them friends anymore. I picked one and gave her a call. She didn't pick up, and her voicemail was just a voice that repeated the number I just called. I couldn't tell if it was her or not, but left a message anyways.

Seriously? What the hell is the point of repeating the phone number I just called as your message? Why wouldn't you say your name? Seriously?

The second person I called didn't pick up either, so I left her a message as well. Not wanting to feel like I didn't accomplish anything with this resolution, I gave my best friend a call. She didn't pick up either, but I justified that one by assuming she was taking care of her newborn baby.

I don't feel defeated, but no one has called me back. It just makes me want to not call anyone. How crappy would that be to break my resolution after only a few days, though?

I think I'll do what majority of the people at my gym will do. I'll give it a month and then maybe quit.

Xmas shopping is mostly done!

Posted on 19:57 by Unknown
Thanks for all the gift suggestions! I found a great (hopefully) cheap present to give to ALL my cousins.

We're all going to go to the Christmas-themed Improv Asylum show. We'll get to enjoy some laughs. We'll get to hang out "together." I got the tickets half-price thanks to all the Boston social groups I belong to... totalling $70 for the six of us.

And most importantly, since I did say US, I get to enjoy the gift too.

Surprise, Surprise ;)

Xmas Gifts

Posted on 19:50 by Unknown

I love giving gifts. The problem is that I'm a student, don't exactly earn any income. Now I do have money in my savings, and I do get an allowance from my parents for food and stuff (which I have extorted, embezzled, inflated, etc).

Alas, this still doesn't allow me to buy people the gifts that I want to buy them... because if I had all the money in the world (or maybe $5000 more than I do now) I would be buying designer gifts. Wallets, wristlets, other small leather goods.

But I don't have that kind of cash. In addition, I'm buying gifts for people I don't know really well.

I love my family... but liking them and wanting to hang out with them is a whole other ballgame. Yet I still have to buy gifts for these people because (and only because) they will be buying gifts for me.

Now I'm easy. Put a bow on a bottle of booze and I'm happy.

Them... not so much. I've got one cousin who doesn't really drink. (God only knows how we share the same blood).

I've got a couple cousins who are a tad larger than the average bear, so cute clothes won't be so cute on them.

I've got a mom who bitches and moans that she doesn't need/want anything for christmas, then pouts and gets upset when she doesn't get anything.

I need ideas people. I need good gifts under $25. If that's even possible, hook me up!!
